Grand Assembly 2001

The 57th annual Wisconsin Grand Assembly was held at the Masonic Center in Oshkosh with Grand Worthy Advisor Amber Johnson over her Have Faith in You Dreams session. Amber's mascot was Cinderella. The Assembly room was decorated like a castle. We were very honored to have three past Grand Worthy Advisors from Wisconsin in Attendance as well as one from new jersey. There were also several visiting dignitaries from various other jurisdictions as well as other Masonic organizations. The Grand Luncheon was held in the lower level of the center with glass slippers, candles and castles for decorations. The Grand Officers initiated two new candidates, Madolyn Wade and Melissa Staley, to the order. On Friday evening Robin and Michael Shore were awarded the Service to Rainbow Award. Lori Jackson was appointed State Mother Advisor and Richard Black was appointed State Rainbow Dad for 2001/2002. The Junior Executive Board was also appointed for the coming year. They are Andrea Rice, Katie Shore, Jennie Canfield, and Meliora Kifer. State Grand Executive Board Members for the coming year are Leora Blackwood, Barbara Lee Overton, Lori Jackson, Mary Traupman, Richard Black, Jim Byrnes, Betsy Lynch, Diana Kifer and Donna Johnson. Grand Worthy Advisor Amber announced that $2,000 had been raised for the Grand Charity - Knights Templar Eye Foundation.

Grand Worthy Advisor Report

I hope everyone has recovered from Grand Assembly, I know it me about a week because we have a busy year ahead of us. I personally can't wait to get to know each and every one of you a little better.

The summer is swiftly drawing to a close and soon all of us will be trudging off to school again. I know my school starts this Friday!!! As I started marching band orientation this week, it all became quite clear that school would be starting soon. As I marched and played our rather cheesy school song, it suddenly dawned on me that this would be my last marching band camp, this would be my last football season, in fact this would hold my last...well...everything having to do with Freeport High School. It was a rather sobering fact.

I know that all of us are very excited about this next year, and I know that next august seems a long ways away. But really it's just around the corner. Which leads me back to a point that I know I've made before, and you can count on me making again, that we need to hold onto every precious moment, for it will soon become a memory. Time passes more quickly than you think. I actually had someone at Grand Assembly tell me "Only 364 days and you'll be done". I'm not sure exactly what point this person was trying to make, but I felt immediately that I must be running out of time and needed to get a move on.

There are many exciting events planned for this year, and I hope that as many of you as possible can attend and share in the fun. Communication is the foundation successful organization, and I encourage everyone to keep the lines of communication open. Hopefully our new newsletter and website will help us with this endeavor. Also, please feel free to call or email me.

We had a good year last year, and I hope that we can keep up the good work. I look forward to working with all of you.

In Rainbow Love, Melissa Jackson.

Supreme Deputy Report

In the spring of 2000, I received an invitation to move Grand Assembly to Oshkosh. At the Eastern Star Installation that June, I pictured what the work would look like in that room. You have made that dream a reality. Thank you for all you hard work. I have received many compliments about the weekend both from those who are familiar with Rainbow and those seeing it for the first time. Those seeing Rainbow for the first time were impressed with both the ceremonies and the work that you do. You have made many good impressions. Yesterday, I talked with Eastern Star ladies that remember when events filled that Masonic Center. Never did I imagine that each session would fill that entire lodge room. I was so pleased to share that with them. I hope each one of you is pleased with your work and the success of the weekend.

GWA Melissa has many wonderful ideas for this year. Please stay in touch with your assembly so that you don't miss any of her events. Beloit, Milwaukee, and Madison may need you help this next year. Please try to help them out if you are asked. Steven's Point has applied for their charter. This is an exciting and special in the life of an assembly. When we have a date for the chartering ceremony, we will let everyone know so that you can attend and share in this special time. Fond du Lac is working on getting enough girls to apply for their letters temporary. When this is scheduled, we will let you know so that you can attend and share in their excitement. It will be an exciting year for Wisconsin Rainbow. So join us and "Hold on to these moments."

In Rainbow Love, Mom Barb

State Mother Advisor Report

What an AWESOME weekend we had in Oshkosh!! I am still receiving messages from all over the country about the wonderful work you girls did this past weekend. I am so proud of all of you! We have been given a wonderful foundation by Amber, and I am certain they will take Wisconsin Rainbow to even greater heights this year.

Please take advantage of all the opportunities that are being provided for you. Your Mother Advisors, Advisory Boards, and State Executive Committee have many wonderful events planned for you this year. Our Grand Worthy Advisor, Melissa, has many surprises ahead. We have the opportunity to try some new things with the changes being suggested by the Rainbow Task Force. These Changes are exciting. If I was having so much fun being a mom, I would want to be a girl again! Use your new newsletter or website to communicate with each other., and others to know about Wisconsin Rainbow. This is how you make new friends, and get out-of-state people to come to Grand Assembly next year.

If you are assigned to write to other jurisdictions, please do it! If you have problems or need information, ask for help. Being a Grand Representative or correspondent is one of the best experiences a girl in Rainbow can have. You can make new friends, share similarities, and bring new ideas to our state. It is very exciting to have a guest from another place and also very exciting to have the opportunity to travel to another jurisdiction. Take advantage of the opportunity if you get it. Please let your Grand Worthy Advisor (and her banker) if you plan to travel. It is more fun to travel in a group. We also invite you to come with us in our travels. We plan to try to get to as many jurisdictions as we can this year. Traveling makes Supreme Assembly that much more exciting as you know so many more people when you get to Orlando.

I look forward to working with you this year. Do not hesitate to call, mail, email, or otherwise contact me as I am here for you. Let me know if there is anything I can help you with. If you don't have the skill you need, I can find someone who does. I would love to here what you are doing in your individual assemblies, and would love to visit as often as possible. All I ask is that you give me some lead time to schedule& keep Kleenex on hand.

In Rainbow Love, Mom Lori
